Review of The World's End (2013) by David M — 01 Mar 2014
Completing the "Cornetto Trilogy" collaboration between Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright, "The World's End" concludes one of British comedy's great chapters (and boy have they had a few).
Starring Pegg and Frost alongside British film royalty like Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike, Pierce Brosnan, David Bradley, Darren Boyd and Bill Nighy in a voice role, "The World's End" satirizes apocalyptic alien invasion films, the way the previous Cornetto films - "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" satirized zombie and buddy comedy films respectively.
It contains some poignant moments, combined with the wry humour and running gags ("There's no point arguing with him") that makes this trilogy, and British comedy as a whole, so entertaining.
One of the year's best comedies.
