Review of The World Is Not Enough (1999) by James C — 03 Jul 2010
I thought this was slightly too try hard at times. It just didnt have the humour of other Bonds, or when it did it just seemed for the sake of it. There were too many celebrity faces in it and it just seemed a little corny.
Its just seemed like it was trying too hard to be modern and was too serious for its own good. I dont like it when big name actors put on silly accents when I am sure there are people who can do it more authentically.
Robbie Coltrane is great but did they need him as a Russian? and Robert Carlyle didnt really do it for me here. If Bond takes itself too seriously then ironically it makes it seem more unreal. If it is willing to laugh at itself then we know its all part of the fun.
It was merely ok...but this is watching it 11 years after the fact. I think I liked it when it came outl.
