Review of The World Is Not Enough (1999) by Grant H — 26 Aug 2012
One of the best Bond films of all time. The World Is Not Enough is an outstanding entry into the Bond saga that features a great but complex plot with one of the most memorable Bond villains of all time, Robert Carlyle as the evil terrorist Renard, as well as some stunning Bond girls Sophie Marceau and Denise Richards.
Pierce Brosnan continues to show he was born to play James Bond, he is the definition of cool, he is smooth, cold, and dangerous but in this film he made Bond more human than ever, the man was actually injured! The film had the best opening pre title teaser to any Bond film the office escape and then the intense boat chase through London. The action scenes were very entertaining and Bond-esque. What I loved most about this film is the personal level it went into with the plot twist that I didn't see coming involving who the true villain was and Bond's closeness he shared with SPOILERS her.
The shootout in the mine, the Caviar plant, and the climax in Istanbul at the Maiden's Tower and Submarine was just awesome. James Bond's 19th adventure is pure gold and closes out the millenium with a bang.
