Review of The World Is Not Enough (1999) by Thomas P — 03 Nov 2012
Brosnan continues to try and get more out of his character in this Bond film. His acting improves and there are some small touches of substance. In particular, the femme fatale who pushes Bond a little too far.
Dench as M also has some nice character beats that enrich her relationship with Bond. She feels slightly guilty and responsible for Bond. However, Denise Richards is a bit of a weak link to this story (despite her obvious assets.
) Most of the film is actually pedestrian and mediocre. It drags along with only one truly amazing sequence: the most thrilling opening action scene in the entire Bond franchise. The boat chase kicks ass.
Thankfully, we'll be seeing more of Bond's darker side in later years.
