Review of The World Is Not Enough (1999) by Tom R — 24 Jan 2013
I knew that my incessant defense of Pierce Brosnan in 007 would have to end...
Everything about this movie fell flat. The action sequences didn't have any punch. Literally - the punching and gun fighting all felt slow and "soft." Other terrible things: the opening bond song. The opening "super boat" chase sequence. and the PUNS. What the hell happened? There must have been over 100 puns uttered throughout the entire movie. It was overkill.
It's a shame - because the idea for the plot had a lot more promise compared to Tomorrow Never Dies; but it is all handled so poorly that some of the exposition doesn't even make sense to me. Why are these characters doing these things? I know it's an action movie - but even so it's all stretched a little too thin.
Random thought: I actually don't mind Denise RIchards as a bond girl. Everyone hates her for some reason - but my favorite bond girls are: wonderfully attractive lookers, terribly awful actors. I mean does anyone remember Honey Rider?
