Review of The World Is Not Enough (1999) by David L — 28 Jan 2014
Yet more compulsive viewing from the ever consistent series that is James Bond. This time we witness the worlds great oil tycoons go head to head in a bid to be the ultimate superpower, but when a seemingly innocent seductress teams up with a madman who feels no pain, there's a new type of threat to 007.
With the help (or hindrance) of Christmas Jones, there's sure to be action and innuendos from start through to the explosive climax. Again, as with many other of these movies, I feel more could be made of the villains unique loss of sense, which isn't helped by the fact he is only introduced to the audience midway through the showing.
There's a great deal of action with the usual helicopter chases, gun fights, and one on one duels, as well as some obvious plot twists to contend with. Brosnan makes quite a good Bond whom is often overshadowed by the success of his former actors, which perhaps suggests that we will only appreciate these later films over time.
The Bond girls are very well crafted with brains as well as beauty, which has progressed somewhat over the years from the useless screaming bints that the earlier editions showcased. What with other all star cast members such as Judi Dench, John Cleese and Robbie Colthrane, it's clear that Bond still continues to be a notoriously action packed Blockbuster franchise that never even looks like deteriorating in quality.
