Review of The World Is Not Enough (1999) by Mimi S — 02 Nov 2012
Grade: C+.
I think it's a decent Bond film with good characted and twists, but the plot is very complicated to follow at times. The action is brilliant; James Bond chasing the baddie across the Thames in a speed boat has to be one of the best action scenes. I thought Robert Carlyle made a brilliant villain and Sophie Marceau made a good femme fatale. However Carlyle's acting always impresses me and he's brilliant in his films. I thought some parts were a bit long and unexciting. The film seems longer than it really is and I found myself switching off a bit. The film did have some good characters; I was glad to see Robbie Cultrane on the screen again, another great actor next to Robert Carlyle. I wasnt keen on Denise Richards as a Bond girl; the acting wasn't great. This was one of the first Bond films I saw so it'll always hold that special something for me and I watch it each Christmas when it's on TV, but its not the best Bond film.
