Review of The World Is Not Enough (1999) by Pascal V — 27 Dec 2012
Will we ever get enough of James Bond? Well, I for one probably won't.
The latest episode is The World is not Enough. Brosnan is the perfect Bond, as was Sean Connery. I thought this episode was better than the last one, Tomorrow never dies, but not as good as Goldeneye.
The action scenes are fine, especially the opening scene, which might be the best Bond-opener yet.
The bad guy is convincingly played by Robert Carlyle (who was already spooky in Trainspotting). The women are pretty as ever, though I found it pretty hard to picture Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist. But then, this is James Bond, who cares...
The jokes were cheesy as expected, we saw Q appear for maybe the last time, and his replacement being introduced: the one and only John Cleese (who seems perfect for the part).
The next Bond could do with a story slightly better than "a plan for a new world order"; Please, no more Russian terrorists.
Still, a very acceptable Bond-film.
