Review of The World According to Garp (1982) by Jeff C — 18 Nov 2008
Charming and quirky movie, well tightened from the Irving novel about a sensitive young writer and his eccentric feminist mother. Brought to life by a perfect cast, especially Close, and a confident mix of light comedy and dark social satire.
Sometimes the adaptation is too loose (I could have done without the hokey animated bit), but otherwise it works wonderfully.
