Review of The Words (2012) by Jason V — 07 Sep 2012
I'll be honest: The Words lost me in its second half. What starts as a man desperate to be something, to make something of himself, ends up completely losing that character and any emotion the audience has for him.
See, while we've experienced life with Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana for a good 45 minutes, the movie forgets about both characters-particularly hers-in the second half of the movie. Why? Because Jeremy Irons and a flashback story takes center stage.
Oh, and then there's a third story involving Dennis Quaid which serves no useful purpose. Had The Words stuck to it's story about doing the right thing no matter how hard it is...or feeling aimless in life.
..something could have been made out of The Words. The cast isn't the problem; they're a good bunch (Quaid is oddly aloof, though). They're stuck in a story more interested in its structure than in being a good movie.
Half a good movie here-not enough to recommend.
