Review of The Words (2012) by Heather M — 29 Dec 2012
I am dismayed by the many negative reviews for this film. In addition to a rather interesting story, it challenges viewers to think deeply about 1) their own ethical choices and the very slippery slope of unethical actions (passive and active) and 2) making choices between the people we love and the things we love.
True, the nested story lines can be confusing, and it probably presumes to be more important a film than it is. I think those two factors have put off the critics especially, who for the same level of complication are expecting something like The Hours in terms of weight.
It is not in that league, but is an excellent film and an admirable first effort for the writers/directors. And, as Bradley Cooper states, it is a very romantic "date movie.".
