Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Jules E — 01 Jan 2007
The reason why I really loved this movie is that it took such a rad subect and delt with it in such an intelligent way. It's was a real chalenge to capture the perfect state of mind of a man who has raped little girl.
And it was an even bigger challenge to make us feel sorry for his situation and actually feel compassionate. So they made a great job transforming a rethorique beast into an actual human being that we will feel interested in following his story.
And along side this psychological drama there's a beautiful love story. I really felt that it was like a teenage love the way they treated eachother which was really funny coming from two people who has been in a lot of life and suffered a lot and that makes it more lovable.
And I loved the ending and we see how Kevin Bacon's character is cured from his nevroses in the perfect way which is totally loyal to the psychological studies of this subject from the side of his reaction and the way he was cured.
After all the cure of his sickness was the sickness itself. And I must say I really loved the script which was really smart and actually hard to write getting the exact words that will trasnlaste what's hidden iside the mind of every character.
And I guess this the best performence ever given by Kevin Bacon. I know it was overlooked but he doesn't need critics howling all over him so we can know that he did an amazing job.
