Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Geonard Y — 01 Jan 2007
Directed by Nicole Kassell.
Starring Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Eve, Mos Def, David Alan Grier, Benjamin Bratt, Michael Shannon.
A honest, personal work from a first-time director. Films like this one caters to the same audience as ?North Country? and ?Monster?s Ball? and care less for the box-office so long as the message reaches out to willing listeners. Acting is very good even though reportedly, the actors worked nearly for free. The movie tells the story of a man haunted by sins of his past, his search for understanding, acceptance and forgiveness. That?s probably the most melodramatic thing anyone could say, but that?s what the movie is all about. Kevin Bacon starred and co-produced. So it goes in saying that sometime in a middle-aged career actor?s career, that after ?Hollow Man? and ?Wild Things? he would want to make something respectable and profound.
Best Scene: The bench and a girl?s admission.
