Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Tat T — 01 Jun 2007
Kevin Bacon's underappreciated talent shines here. Against all odds, he turns an otherwise distasteful story into a character study of Walter, a pedophile who struggles to "normalize" himself from the past and his dark secret.
Several plot points are rather unconvincing and a little too convenient, but then your focus will always be remained on Bacon's meticulous craft. The scene in the park with Robin delves into Walter's deeply rooted sexual obsession and his guilt for it, that the whole movie is almost revolving around it.
One of the more sophisticated movies I've seen recently.
