Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Vesa L — 11 Aug 2008
A challenging and sometimes extremely uncomfortable film about a recently paroled paedophile returning to his hometown and trying to resurrect his life. Kevin Bacon gives a fantastic performance as the troubled paedophile; a performance that went largely unnoticed when the film was released. He plays the role very understated and itâ??s because of this you actually start to feel some sympathy for his character. He knows that there is something very wrong with him and he is fighting a constant battle not to succumb to his temptations. There is one scene in particular that is extremely difficult to sit through, which makes you realise and almost understand the torment that this man goes through on a daily basis.
A slightly ambiguous ending just adds to the films overall effect. An excellent drama that really must be seen.
