Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Kianna S — 21 Oct 2009
Kevin Bacon gives the best performance of his career as a convicted pedophile, fresh out of prison trying to start his life anew in the face of ridicule from the community, his family, and the sexual deviance that still haunts him, even in lieu of his release.
It is a film of redemption, in the face of hideous and sickening transgressions. The film veers from Bacon's character relapsing into his old habits, but ultimately atoning completely. It is a film that definitely should have been made, in spite of the protagonist being a very sick, flawed individual, and Nicole Kassell does a great job putting together this very low-key indie film, that is most definitely deserving of a wider audience.
