Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Charles S — 28 Mar 2010
To be blunt, this is the best film... No, this is the best drama I've ever seen about sexual-attitudes in society. Bacon is quite unashamedly brash with his character (a semi-reformed Pederast) who very nearly falls off the wagon during the course of the film. Rapper cum-actor Mos Def drastically proves his acting-chops as Sgt. Lucas. I forget who plays the (U.S. equivalent of the) Social Worker but she always brings a charming light to the scene.
In my opinion director Kassell overtly blunts the cinematography so all the performance comes from dialogue, that thankfully is very well-written and therefore deserving of the spotlight it gets from the edit.
No punches are pulled, but much quarter is given (depending on your point of view *after* seeing this).
