Review of The Woodsman (2004) by Matt B — 13 Jul 2007
There's little doubt this is a hard movie to watch, it covers a topic which is one of the most inflammatory to right timnking people and challenges us to look at it from the hardest view point, that of the paedophile themselves.
It cover the stigma which remains attached to people despite having served their sentence and explores if it really is possible to change ones sexual tendencies. I think the only downfall is that this seems a little too easy for the character portrayed and the idea that one or two experiences in the outside world could 'cure' him seems a little steep, despite having had 12 years in jail to consider things, lets hope its that easy IRL.
That aside I really enjoyed the film and admire how brave Kevin Bacon was to take the role, he plays it very well and the supporting cast do a good job too. Well worth a watch, but make it a Sunday afternoon rather than a Friday night movie.
