Review of The Woodlanders (1998) by Christine B — 29 Nov 2007
Thomas Hardy wrote some incredible downer tales in his time, that's for sure! However, if you enjoy beautifully filmed (in the UK) forest laden period dramas filled with pent up passion and bittersweet desire - as I do - this is a film for you! Rufus Sewell and Emily Woof are perfectly cast as doomed childhood sweethearts Giles & Grace and although this film is small, slow and quiet, it's beautiful to look at even if the ending is abrupt and disappointing.
