Review of The Woman in the Window (1944) by Max M — 25 Aug 2008
Good little noir picture from the great Fritz Lang about a psychology professor, played by Edward G. Robinson, whose fascination with a mysterious woman (Joan Bennett) leads to murder and blackmail.
Well-paced and engaging story here is only somewhat hampered by the uninspired ending (a cop-out by today's standards but shocking and psychologically valid during the era in which the picture was made - when Freud's ideas on the subconscious were still relatively new and radical - theories which had a great impact in Germany, Lang's home country, and upon Lang and his fellow filmmakers).
