Review of The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (2014) by Frédéric H — 19 Feb 2015
A total waste of time that is neither necessary nor scary and I forgot about it pretty much the second it was over. The story setup is pretty ridiculous with a group of children being taken to the same secluded mansion from the first film to hide out from the Nazis.
..because completely isolating yourself to a location with only one way out is a smart plan. The lighting is so dim that I honestly couldn't see half of the "scares", not to mention that your villain is the Woman in BLACK and your scenes are impenetrably dark.
The acting and cinematography is surprisingly decent for this type of horror film, and there is one story element involving the pilot that I didn't see coming, but the positives end there. Not once was I in suspense, there's no back-story on the Woman in Black so if you haven't seen the first one, the filmmakers don't care, and it's honestly just a waste of space.
Every year we get a shit horror movie released in the first week of January, so I don't see why I'm surprised anymore.
