"The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death" is a dreadful and suspense-free sequel to the 2012 period horror starring Daniel Radcliffe. Harry Potter himself doesn't return for the sequel and it is mostly filled with jump-scares.
The Woman in Black has finally lost her groove because "Angel of Death" feels like a really bad after-school play. Why couldn't the woman in black say, one time in the movie as a joke, BOO! I would've loved that.
Taking place 40 years after the original, WWII begins in London as bombs drop down. Eve Parkins (Phoebe Fox) and her schoolchildren escape the bombs by evacuating them to the British countryside. The only shelter in the region is the old Eel Marsh House where the Woman in Black (Leanne Best) lives. Soon, all hell breaks loose as the woman in black terrorizes the kids and Miss Parkins. The children disappear one after the other as Parkins gets help from a dashing British pilot named Harry Burnstow (Jeremy Irvine). The whole movie is just jump-scare, jump-scare, jump-scare and jump-scare. "The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death" is short on tension, suspense and story. Couldn't the filmmakers just released this on direct-to-video instead of releasing it in theaters where moviegoers deserve better. You know you're in trouble when the best thing about this cheaply made horror sequel is it's title.
