Review of The Woman in Black (1989) by Gaz G — 02 Jan 2011
I first watched this on terrestrial tv around 1989. It was late on a Christmas Eve and my sister, my mum and I all watched it together. Now, being just nine years old, the first twenty minutes or so didn't really hold my attention.
That was until I clapped eyes on the woman in black, seen standing motionless during a church ceremony. Rarely has a film scared me as much. The scene three quarters of the way through in which young solicitor Arthur Kidd is seen lying in bed, sweating and afraid, still fills me with a child like terror.
If you have the imagination (and the nerve) to watch and hopefully enjoy a good old fashioned, well told ghost story without need for blood, guts and violence then I strongly recommend watching this classic.
The book is also a must read. Terrifying.
