Review of The Wolverine (2013) by Kendyl C — 14 May 2014
It's not one of the most memorable Marvel movies, especially in comparison to the many recent entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But for me, The Wolverine is an almost superior Marvel spectacle for its favor of exploring edgier (and actually canon) material with Logan's entrance into the world of Japanese culture.
It has its clichà (C)s -- the 'fighting on top of a moving train' sequence specifically -- and its quirks, but it's an overall excellent and exhilarating experience for casual viewers and fellow X-members alike, tossing away any origin story its disastrous 2008 predecessor X-Men Origins: Wolverine felt the need to force (and recreate) without alienating its audience. Hugh Jackman is convincing enough to earn himself his own franchise and The Wolverine shows it. Give it a chance, whether you're familiar with the X-Men franchise or Wolvy himself or not.
