Review of The Wolverine (2013) by Adam K — 26 May 2014
As much as I wanted to like this film more, I can't ignore that I feel it shifts drastically between drama and camp. Its overly long and works mostly as a stand alone film apart from any real canon.
It does draw some pretty cool contemporary influences, and I will not deny how awesome the opening scene as well as a kick ass sequences on top of a fast moving train, but it really loses a lot of steam with its draggy pace and sometimes monotonous tone.
It has the right idea, but ultimately loses its touch with poor directing and editing choices that overpower three or four really great moments. I really would have liked to see what Darren Aronofsky (the director originally hired by the studio) would have done with the material.
