Review of The Wolverine (2013) by Hugo P — 26 Jul 2014

Another stand alone Wolverine movie, but I am happy to say that this is way better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This movie offers a great story, great character development, and great action. This is all I wanted from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

In that movie they tried to show Wolverine's human side, but it ultimately failed by putting a love interest you don't care about and making him do stupid things all the time. But in this installment they actually do a good job in showing Wolverine's human side.

They show a love interest that I can believe that he likes her. She was played by Tao Okamoto which I thought she did a great job, she wasn't annoying, and she was likable. The best part of this movie is the action scenes.

They are well shot, and incredibly violent for a PG-13 movie. This is amazing how violent they could get with that rating. The fight scenes with Wolverine were genuinely intense because they made the character more vulnerable by taking away his healing abilities.

But at the same time there is this confusion I had because wouldn't he have open wounds on his fist if they claws came out. But that really is just a nitpick. When you watch this movie you can't think realistically.

If you think this movie has to be realistic you will have a bad time. But I didn't think it to be realistic. I think anyone can have a fun time with this movie. It's acted well, it's directed well, and it's written well.

The special effects are good enough; they are not horrible like they were in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I'm rating this same as X-Men 2 but I enjoyed this more than I did X-Men 2. This had a faster pace and it made Wolverine into a more interesting character.

I thought this was a great superhero movie. Not so much a great movie. And it's not really up to par with the other marvel movies. But I do recommend seeing this.
