Review of The Wolverine (2013) by Tiger L — 16 Aug 2014
Are you offering to kill me?
The Wolverine is a bit of a loner dealing with numerous inner demons. He is approached by a woman that tells him of a huge fan in Tokyo that has bestowed a great honor on him, but he must head to Tokyo to receive the honor. He reluctantly begins the long voyage and quickly wishes he hadn't. The visit quickly becomes a set-up to steal his powers. Can the wolverine escape the diabolical plan or will a new super villain emerge victorious?
"Are you a hunter?".
"Not anymore.".
James Mangold, director of Girl, Interrupted; Cop Land, Identity, Walk the Line; 3:10 to Yuma; Knight and Day; and the upcoming sequel to this picture, delivers The Wolverine. The storyline for this picture was just okay and fairly straight forward for the genre. I will say the action scenes were awesome and definitely make the picture worth viewing. The acting was fairly mediocre and the cast includes Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Tao Okamoto, and Rila Fukishima.
"You look nice.".
"I feel violated.".
The Wolverine is a movie that interested me when the previews first came out but I only recently viewed on cable. I will say this was very entertaining and I loved the action scenes and mix of old and new Wolverine sub plots. Overall, I'd say this is an above average action picture that isn't on par with the elite super hero genre films.
"Nothing is without meaning.".
Grade: C+.
