Review of The Wolverine (2013) by Dale A — 09 Nov 2014
Good movie, not great but way better than X-Men origins: Wolverine!
!!!Spoilers ahead!!!
Could have easily loved it as it's very character driven and handled with a realistic logic for most of it. But the two elements which really ruin the movie, to me are the Viper character and the silver samurai at the end battle:
-Viper doesn't make sense, why would someone be so driven to save an other person's life, be a doctor and at the same time kill so easily?! Maybe making her half Japanese, as the daughter of the dying Yashida, would have made her blend more into the story but her outfit doesn't help as she sticks out more out of the story & the look of the film with her outfits than a Christmas tree in the middle of a mosque during Ramadan!!!
-The, robot like, silver samurai doesn't make any sense either as how a dying old man, who can barely move when we first meet him, could have any strength to battle a fully recovered Wolverine, even as a suit keeping him alive, no matter how technology advanced it is?!!
I think giving him Wolverine dna, therefore making them "equals" and, at least, nearly to full strength before they battle, would have given the movie a better, more grounded, edge and then suit Yashida up with a normal size Adamantium samurai suit would give the final battle more ground and be more character driven as Logan would then battle the demons of his past & himself!
I know it's easy to know better after a film was made but this is a movie which could have so easily been great and is asking to be loved!!!
