Review of The Wolfpack (2015) by E T — 24 Jun 2015
This film was painful to watch. Setting aside the abusive and irresponsible parents who nurtured a bizarre, if not criminally dysfunctional 'household' for their seven children, this 'reality docudrama' seems to suggest imitation of the surreal is a loftier goal than joining reality, and confronting the banalities of an ordinary life.
These children were imprisoned by their parents for over a decade in a cramped apartment. The filmmaker treated it as if it were some sort of spiritually enlightening ordeal. The most compelling aspect of the film may be found in the reviews by professional film-critics, almost none of whom were willing to acknowledge the atrocity of this 'urban fable'.
