There is certainly curiosity and intrigue in a story and circumstance seemingly impossible to be true. It's probably unsurprising given such a confining upbringing, the Angulo children manifested their development of creativity and imagination via the limited tools/media available to them (movies).

The documentary's best moments are instances when the family (both parents and children) are allowed to express their unfiltered thoughts as to whether there is regret, resentment or a combination of both.

Despite several revealing moments, the film struggles with connecting the past, present and future together:

1) The backstory of the Angulo parents' relationship is only briefly touched upon (particularly as to why New York City was the chosen city given the many objections the father had to modern society).

2) Did the huge influence of movies help or hinder the Angulo children's grasp of the outside world once they were able to (temporarily) escape their confines?

3) With the older Angulo children making the transition into adulthood, how will the younger Angulo children fare with siblings now out of the "virtual cage"?
