Review of The Wolfpack (2015) by Jessica T — 18 Dec 2015
Intimate and unique, "The Wolfpack" documents the real-life story of six brothers raised in social isolation in a Manhattan housing project. Apart from being home-schooled, watching movies becomes their main window to the outside world. Much of their time is spent recreating their favourite films with handmade props and costumes, and full-length scripts printed from an old-fashioned typewriter. Cinema provides an outlet for their self-expression, and a way to escape their troubling reality.
Despite the unusual circumstances they find themselves in, there's a universality to the journey of these young cinephiles - growing up, coping with parental conflicts, finally venturing outside the comforts of home, and facing real and imagined fears. In that sense, even with its eccentricities, "The Wolfpack" tells a very human and relatable story.
