Review of The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) by Alejandro D — 21 Mar 2018
Over the top but not in the good way.
Don't get me wrong I love reckless violent wild movies especially when the name Scorsese is involved, but this film feels forced and looking so desperate to win an academy award that it looses its cool bold vibe, the storytelling is good but there are to many elements flying around that sometimes get repetitive and dull, after the first half hour the movie can't escape from it's presumptuous efforts to offer oscar bait performances and scenes, not to mention it seems awfully long with 179 minutes.
The movie relys to much on DiCaprio with is to worried about getting an oscar that forgets to entretain the audience, it's performance is sharp and dazzling but without the charm you would expect in this kind of films like "Casino" or "Goodfellas". Margot Robbie delivers the most realistic and likable performance but cant help to be overshadow by DiCaprio's circus.
