Review of The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) by Joe C — 10 Jun 2015
ScorLeo give us yet another elongated biopic, this time about rampant materialism and greed of 80's Wall Street, and the rise and fall of relentless go-getter and scam artist Jordan Belfort. Independent funders let Scosese run wild on a loose leash, allowing him to tell this excoriating orgy of drug-fueled capitalist overindulgence without hindrance from upper-brass.
And the end result is an incredible three-hour-long free for all of midget tossing, Lambo crashing, Quaalude popping and orgy hosting that didn't skimp on the necessary Scosese-ness. If you offend easily, The Wolf of Wall Street will spit you out in a heartbeat.
Such is the insanity of this film's delivery, and such is the brilliance of Leonardo DiCaprio's performance as the charismatic lead, that it's all too easy to get swept away in the adrenalin rush and not realize what an impressive film this is.
