Review of The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) by Duke W — 17 Mar 2016
Scorsese goes to the well one too many times with this movie seemingly trying to emulate the recipe for success of Goodfellas and Casino. There is an interesting cautionary tale to be told here of greed, decadence, and avarice.
Sadly, this movie graphically depicts repeatedly scenes of vulgarity, degeneracy, and perversion to almost glorify some of these immoral, wicked, and evil behaviors. This movie warrants an above average rating for the interesting story and strong performances, but the movie falls short of a great rating for crossing the line in graphic depictions of vulgarity and perversion.
Perhaps had Scorsese revealed these horrific selfish hedonistic behaviors without constantly dwelling in those graphic depictions, then maybe the cause of revealing the terrible consequences of such a lifestyle would be demonstrated with a little more needed clarity.
