Review of The Wolf Man (1941) by Brendan N — 23 Jan 2013
A full-blooded creature feature, with an unpolished-yet-endearing Lon Chaney, Jr. helpless and victim to an increasingly lupine nature. The ever-dependable Claude Rains grounds everything (and supplies an interesting father-son conflict with Chaney), but the real star of the show is Jack Pierce's seminal makeup effects, which in the post-CGI world have great, tactile charm.
