Review of The Wolf Man (1941) by Gareth B — 28 Jun 2007
This is for many the film which defines the Werewolf genre, along with American Werewolf and the Howling. It's strangely ironic how this film managed to completely re-jug the werewolf legend and give birth to all the superstitions to which our modern beliefs on lycanthropes are bound (although admittedly the likes of American Werewolf and Ginger Snaps have eroded many of these myths away).
Lon Chaney Jr also makes a cracking lupine, although his dower, sagging scowling facial features are probably enen more scary. Another addition to the long list of horror classics to add to the list.
