Review of The Wizard of Oz (1939) by Joshua N — 12 Jun 2014
An overrated film whose elaborate set pieces and costumes make up for an extremely dumb storyline. (How does the Scarecrow think that he can reason as well as he does if he doesn't have a brain? Is his self-esteem really that low? And the Tin Man is so sensitive, yet he honestly thinks he doesn't have a heart? Really?) But there is a charm to the film that makes it fun to watch regardless, mostly due to the songs.
