Review of The Wiz (1978) by Nikki G — 06 Oct 2008
I remember loving this as a kid. Checked it out again a few years ago, and didn't love it so much.
Visually appealing, great singing and dancing (LOVED the songs) - but the acting was a pretty off (Sorry Ms. Ross - but you weren't much better in Mahogony). Richard Pryor was great as the Wizard, and I am still a big fan of the Emerald City, 'No Bad News' and 'Brand New Day' scenes.
I bet Hollywood could re-do this movie with current talent (Mya, Ced the Entertainer can be the Lion, Queen Latifah as the Good Witch, Vanessa L.Williams as the Evil Witch - maybe Usher as the scarecrow).
