Review of The Witches of Eastwick (1987) by Alex M — 28 Jan 2009
I had a lot of hope for this movie when I was reading Updike's book of the same name. The book is loads better filled with all the undercurring sex and raunchy themes that the movie left out. Jack Nicholson was an ideal person to play the role of Van Dorn, but he didn't have much to do here, (with omitting all the good stuff out of the book) Cher, Susan Surandon and Michelle Pfeiffer were all great for the roles, but I kinda saw michelle pfeiffer's and susan surandon's roles switched, when reading the book.
they would've been better for the opposite roles. and the whole ridiculous monster devil ending was just ridiculous, something the book didn't have. the movie just kinda died at that point. surely, the devil had a better plan up his sleeve instead of turning into a large devil(shoddy puppetry and primitive cgi I have to say) when you only get to see his large hand just busting through the house.
lol it was ridiculous.
