Review of The Witches of Eastwick (1987) by Calum B — 14 Apr 2011
The 80's were a rough time for Jack Nicholson, no longer the exciting firebrand of an actor he was in the 70's. Luckily he has the perfect part in this movie as an over the top master of evil. Unfortunately the rest of the movie can't match up with his enthusiasm.
The three female leads are all perfectly suited for their parts as well, if not all a little too broad. The real problem with the movie is the lack of a strong structure. There are so many diversions and wrong steps that the movie becomes exhausting and manic.
George Miller should be commended for his visual style all throughout but the plotting and the ending really don't work.
