Review of The Witches of Eastwick (1987) by Fazley A — 16 Jun 2011
*** (out of four).
Entertaining, though overrated dark comedy that manages to showcase its talented cast while at the same time demonstrating that it could have been much more.
Three New England witches, played by Cher, Michelle Pfieffer, and Susan Sarandon, get to together every Thursday to talk about life and men and dabble in cooking and witchcraft etc. One day the Devil comes to town, masquerading as Jack Nicholson. Each of the women become involved with him. Bad things happen to those who check out the Devil's agenda.
All the women are good, but, interesting enough, the best performance comes from Veronica Cartwright (she played the little girl in Hitchcok's "The Birds") as a town citizen who gets too nosy.
