Review of The Witches (1990) by Ina R — 25 Jan 2008
A wonderful adaptation of a well-written children novel. Though I think I have to go against the grain with most of the reviewers, but the film did not freight me at all when I saw this a a child. And believe me, I saw it several times on the Disney Channel.
The film had its moments, and the visuals were fun and exciting, especially the ending scene when the main character gets transformed back into a young boy. There were several scenes that were thrilling and suspenseful, even for a grownup like myself, but it wasn't over the top.
The cast was superb, and I once was curious why the whole cast was British, but now I know, the film was a British-production. Overall, an entertaining film, and I guess the film could be labeled as a scary movie for young children.
Though I have never read the original book, if I had the chance to, I might.
