Review of The Witches (1990) by Frances H — 11 Jun 2014
This film seems to be rather scary for small children, and rather sadistic, as many of Roald Dahl's books seem to me. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is an exception to this, but the book was also something I would not read to a child.
In all of these stories, children are directly under attack, and the plot taking place in the modern world makes it even worse. Even so, this film does not seem like a 100% film by any stretch, even though Angelica Houston gives an over-the-top performance.
As for Jim Henson, The Dark Crystal was a much better film.
