Review of The Witch (2016) by Oliver W — 30 Jun 2017
Tonight I watched one of the best horror films ever, The Witch. Yes, ever. The Witch is a period drama that takes place in 17th century New England where alleged witchcraft was just starting to come to fruition.
This film was phenomenal in showing the true paranoia and horror religion can bring. It is very blunt with religious importance to the family and the importance of it in the film. It also does a very good job of showing signs of dark imagery and other ways of depicting evil.
The cinematography in The Witch was so good and though it does get a little dark it helps with the uneasiness and tension. The Witch also does a great job of tying in stories and other biblical scriptures into the film that happen to the family.
It is also loaded with great performances, especially from Ralph Ineson and a breakout mega performance from Anya-Taylor Joy. The Witch is incredible and it boggles my mind how many people didn't like it.
If you fall into that category I strongly, STRONGLY urge you to look into it more. It is an extremely smart film and is one of those films that has to be discussed and analyzed afterwards. This will go down as one of my favorite horror films ever.
Please see this film.
