Review of The Witch (2016) by Tanvir M — 01 Jun 2016
Extremely well photographed and acted historical horror film that goes for unsettling the viewer through a creepy atmosphere nurturing the sense of impending doom and cultivating all the primal fears we have picked up from fairy and folk tales, it avoids the easy way of jump scares and gore overload and opts for a slow burn with a rewarding pay off.
Builds on puritan psyche growing on religious superstition and has one of the most unusual conversational language I have heard recently on film, drawing from biblical sources.
