The eerie music and the dark cinematography adds to the unsettling feel of the story. Unfortunately, the 17th century dialect makes the dialogue difficult to understand. I will admit that after watching it the first time, I read the plot on Wikipedia, and, when I watched it the second time, I understood everything.
It wasn't so scary that I had to hide my eyes, but it was creepy.
