As expertly crafted and effective as this Puritan-era horror drama is, I can't help but feel that whatever message the director wanted to leave with the audience was either muddled in obscurity or not worth putting into a film.
Was I expecting a scary fun horror flick? No, but I wasn't hoping for an overly dark and dull drama that I'd sooner forget than think deeply about. While the potential was there, the finished product isn't something worth seeing.
