Review of The Witch (2016) by Matt A — 03 Jul 2016
Its refreshing to see a film that's been made on a shoe sting budget, there's no fancy special effects or dodgy CGI to distract you.. however the lack of a budget does show. Telling the story of a family that gets torn apart from dark forces, its incredibly boring.
Most of the plot twists and 'action' happens in the final 20 minutes of the film, with the exception of the deeply disturbing kidnapping and killing of the baby (which is done off screen) not much happens.
It is in that last segment of the film that it becomes truly unsettling but that cant make up for a film which largely has dislikable children and equally dislikeable parents, holding together an easily forgettable first hour and 10 minutes of the 90 minute run time.
