Review of The Witch (2016) by Raquel G — 28 Sep 2016
Ths is not a slasher movie, but a tension, psychological horror movie. Though the movie was terrebly advertised as a scare movie, which might have somewhat to do with so many people being annoyed do be decieved, the movie itself is a brilliant retale of 17th century folktale as being told from the point if views of pilgrims, to whom disobedience to the clergy and community, isolation, arrogance and pride were a terrible combination that would lead people into being easy preys to evil forces beyond their reckoning. More than folktales, these were "warnings" men of that age gave of the perrils of wandering away for the flock, superstitions and fear of the unknown.
This movie is a lot more than a slow burn, tense horror movie, it's a essay on the fears if the 17th century men.
