Review of The Witch (2016) by Jonathan P — 15 Oct 2016
Although subtitles are a MUST if you hope to understand what is being said in the Old English accents, this was a very good film. It is slow and "boring" at first, but it is easier to follow along with the subtitles.
The costumes and daily custums were authentic to the time period, and as annoying as the dialect was, it truly added to the overall setting. The portrayal of the Witch as well as the family's struggle was original as it focused more on what was being suggested rather than what was actually visible.
As my mother put it, they show you just enough to creep you out so you get the jist of what's going on. I genuinely enjoyed this movie. The acting was great, the setting was great, and the historical accuracy was great.
Definitely made me glad to not have been born in the early 1600s.
